SSMA extension pack upgrade

The SSMA (SQL Server Migration Assistant) extension pack includes functionalities to emulate Oracle features that are not natively supported in SQL Server and is a required component of an EBS installation.

The version of SSMA you should install depends on the version of EBS the institution is using as follows:

  • 4.46 and earlier should use the latest version in the 9.x series.

  • 4.47 and later should use the latest version in the 10.x series.

EBS has a dependency on ODBC in a few key areas due to the use of SSMA extension tools. This feature is included as part of a SQL Server installation and is not something Tribal have ever had to advise on version compatibility before. However, it has come to our attention that ODBC 18 causes some issues with the EBS product – notably adding staff to curriculum items, and in generating exams. Upgrade SSMA

To upgrade the SSMA extension pack:

  1. Download the latest SQL Server Migration Assistant for Oracle Extension Pack from Microsoft.

  2. Run the SSMAforOracleExtensionPack_9.x.0.msi installer on the Database Server.

    The installer requires elevated privileges in order to run.

    The SSMA for Oracle Extension Pack Setup wizard is displayed.

  3. Select Next .

  4. Read the end-user license agreement, select the I accept the agreement radio button, and then select Next .

  5. Select the Typical setup type.

  6. Select the Install button.

  7. On completion, select Next .

  8. Select the Local instance (Windows)  radio button, and then select Next .

  9. Select the database instance from the drop-down list, and then select Next .

  10. Enter the relevant connection details, and then select Next .

    If version 5.2 has not been uninstalled, you may be prompted to uninstall this version before proceeding with the upgrade. Following a successful uninstall, you will need to repeat the previous steps to identify the database instance to upgrade.

  11. Enter a suitable password, and then select Next .

  12. Deselect the Install Tester Database check box, and then select Next to continue with the installation on the specified database instance.

    A confirmation message is displayed.

  13. Select No if this is the last database instance to be upgraded.

  14. Select the Exit button to finish the installation.
